Stress #2: Fight or Flight

fight-or-flightHope all is well with everyone. In my post about Diabetes I mentioned how it has been snowing. Well the bad weather has not subsided. I had a day off of work on Monday and a half day today. So I really hope the weather has been better whereever you live.

Here is the 2nd part to the stress series. This update will not be long. because The Fight or Flight response is something easy to understand. Lets get into it…”The fight or flight response,” What is it?

The fight or flight is caused by stress and is our body’s primitive, automatic, or inborn response to “fight” a possible threat or “flee” a possible threat. This possible “threat” would be whatever is stressing us out.

Have you ever watched animal planet, or watched a youtube video where an animal is running away from its predator, and once it successfully retreats, it watches it’s predator give up while breathing really heavy. That is me. When I am stressed out, I tend to flee from what is causing the stress.

For example, say I had a project that had to be done two days from now, I would stress, and instead of doing the work, I would avoid it while thinking about how I need to get it done.

Now that’s just one of my reactions. Another reaction is the “busy body busy doing nothing,” as I like to call. What I mean by that is, when I’m in flee mode, I will do things like constantly look up more information to a topic when I already have enough, or keep watching videos on how to do something when I already know what to do…..I just need to do it.

The “fight” reaction is present as well in me when I am stressed. I snap on people who did nothing to me. When people keep bothering me when I am trying to do something I snap on them like they smacked me on the back of the head for no reason.  Its crazy.

I think one key to help get rid of stress is realizing your actions and thought patterns when you are stressed. If you practice becoming more aware of your thought patterns and actions while stressed, it can put things into perspective a little better for you.

Till next time…

Stress Part #1

hpa-axis Its pretty crazy that I chose to post the first part to the stress series today because a few stressful events happened today. First I kept waking up in my sleep, so I didn’t get enough sleep. Then I was off to work (working at a job you dislike is always stressful). My Fiance have bi-weekly doctor appointments until our child gets here, and today was her appointment, but my boss wouldn’t let me leave a little early to take my fiance to the appointment on time. That stressed me out because this is my first child and we missed the last appointment. This also made my fiance mad, and since she is pregnant, her pregnant woman brain wouldn’t let her see that I’m not to blame, so she took it out on me. So yea.

My old-self would have allowed stress to get to me, and I would feel overwhelmed and not accomplish any daily goals, but I am trying my best to change and stay focused.

Enough about me and my problems. Lets get into the lesson. If you have any question, or if you can edify any point, please do.

HYPOTHALAMUS

“Hypothalamus?” Where they get these names from, right? The Hypothalamus is a piece of the brain that is located above the brain stem. The Hypothalamus duty is to connect the body’s nervous and endocrine systems. The connections  help the hypothalamus’ ability to discharge hormones into the body’s blood stream. When stressed, the hypothalamus discharge  hormones that awakens the body’s pituitary gland and initiates a stress response.

 PITUITARY GLAND

The Pituitary gland is located right under the hypothalamus. It’s purpose is to give off different hormones, namely Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (which stimulates the adrenal glands) to keep you inward parts (organs, blood flow, etc.) stable, but stress can throw this stability off.

ADRENAL GLANDS

The Adrenal Gland is located on top of the kidneys. It is mainly designed for dealing with stress hormones that are discharged into the blood stream when you are stressed. The major hormone released by the adrenal gland is Cortisol. Cortisol is a needed hormone, but too much of it can cause a few unwanted things, and tamper with a few other things like blood sugar. This is why before we talk about Diabetes, it is good we start with stress.

When stressed, you awaken the Hypothalamus, when the hypothalamus is awoke it awakens the Pituitary Gland, when the Pituitary gland is awoke it gives of the hormones that will awaken the Adrenal Glands….don’t awaken the adrenal glands <——– (That was my attempt at one of those Direct TV commercials)

Take care of yourself…

Addressing Stress Before Diabetes

2010-10-22-TheVisualMD_Wellness1Tip_StressI recently made a post about Diabetes and how I would like to address it, but a key part to reversing diabetes is dealing with stress, so before we touch on diabetes, we will have to touch on stress.

I myself am someone who is dealing with stress. A lot is going on in my life, and I try my best to deal with everything timely and in a good manner, but sometimes stress gets the best of me, and I snap, feel overwhelmed, or get annoyed over little things. I hate that I am like that, so I decided to change.

This will be a 5 part series:

1. Anatomy: Hypothalamus, Pituitary Gland, and Adrenal Gland
2. “Fight or Flight”
3. How stress affects the body
4. How to natural relieve yourself from stress
5. Stress-free productivity

I really hope these lessons will help you because stress is not good man, but its hard not to stress in a world like today. We can make it though!

Diabetes

4BF2B307-04D8-4468-81A3-FEC5D40A90C1Hey world. I hope all is well with you and yours. It snowed pretty bad where I live, which kept me from going to work, so I decided to work on Simply Healed and publish an introductory post.

I would like to talk about Diabetes.

This will be a four part series:

Part 1. Human Anatomy
Part 2. What is diabetes
Part 3. What causes diabetes
Part 4. How to reverse diabetes

I am a person who believes, contrary to popular belief, that anything can be healed. Some people have checked me off as being stupid or crazy, but I don’t mind how they feel, or what they think of me.

I believe The Most High (God) has put everything we need on this earth to heal our bodies from the results of the things we put in our bodies that destroy it.

I don’t claim to be a health guru (nor do I want to be), but I care and have a passion, and those things have caused me to understand the human body more, and understand the things that contribute to either healing or destroying our body.

I hope you will take this journey of learning with me.
